Day 140 – Lima, Peru
So I’ve been living in Lima since early January to work on my research project, staying in a lovely neighbourhood called Miraflores. It’s absolutely beautiful. Lima is a huge, coastal metropolis with tons of districts that each have their own character. I chose Miraflores because it’s the safest part of the city. Lima is known for heavy crime targeted toward tourists, so I feel a lot safer in this area. There are a lot of devastatingly poor people here living in shanty towns in the outskirts of the city.
I live about a 15 minute walk from the beach but the water at this part of the beach (close to the city) is apparently filthy so I just enjoy the sand and scenery. No swimming! Although I always see tons of other people swimming and surfing here. There’s a stunning view from the clifftops overlooking the beach, with the most beautiful sunsets every evening. I love a good sunset!
There are nice beaches a bit south of the city with clean water, so I’m heading that way with some friends later this week. Friends I met while skydiving here… but I’m saving that story for another post!
I’ve really started to love Lima but I think my heart belongs to Argentina.
Anyway, I have 12 days left before I leave for Easter Island and continue on with my travels! I just have a month and a half left before coming home. Yep. How sad. Unfortunately my finances are getting on the low side, so I had to shorten the trip to 6 months. But I have the most amazing last month and a half planned!
Easter Island, the Galapagos, Costa Rica, Halifax (to visit my friends) and then home to Newfoundland! Then a week later I go to Montreal.. and then home again. Haha.
So because I hate long blog posts, I’m going to fill in the blanks with another photo album. Enjoy!
